This commission will be my biggest challenge to date  –  a series of nine paintings capturing the sweet quirkiness of Zena, Zeus and Pookie. They were such an important part of their owner’s life, that he is commissioning a large number of pieces, from different artists, in commemoration of their lives. Over the last few weeks, we have culled through a large number of pictures, some a bit blurry, and finally settled on these images. Today I finished drawing them out on gallery wrapped canvas, and hung them on my studio wall so I could see them all together.  We are thinking each dog will have a different colored background, so I am still mulling over the possibilities. Jacksonville Barn Company Open House and Sanctuary One Benefit – April 14th, 2014 at 6PM

I am so excited to be part of this fun benefit night for Sanctuary One – and look, there’s Ferdinand on the invitation! The Jacksonville Barn Company is hosting their annual open house on Thursday, April 17th at 6PM, and 10% of all sales benefit the Sanctuary. My artwork will be featured (and also for sale), along with sweets by Kat von Cupcake, hosted champagne and appetizers, music by Christine Anderson, and of course shopping at the Barn. If you haven’t been there, they have some really fun and interesting things – lots of vintage finds as well as newer, unique items.  I found the perfect polka dot scarf during my last visit. All guests attending this event will also receive a raffle ticket for a free gift. Join us at 150 South Oregon Street in Jacksonville – and bring your friends. Chaps Appears for the Year of the Horse and National Horse Protection Day – March 1, 2014

Completed Portraits of Dodger, Chewie and Chance

Today, these paintings of Dodger, Chewie and Chance are going to their new home! After struggling with a very long dry time with quinacridone rose paint, I rediscovered cobol blue dryer. It’s now back on my painting table. The background color on all three of these is the same – it’s my novice camera skills that makes one of them look a bit different.

Art 2 Business/ArtStorm-Medford Rehabilitation Center, January – April 2014

This Friday, December 6th from 6:30 – 9PM, a group of Southern Oregon University art advocacy students are hosting a silent auction art fundraiser to benefit Equamore Horse Sanctuary here in Ashland. A framed print of my painting of Equamore horse, “Chaps”, is included in the silent auction, and my French Bulldog holiday cards will also be available. All money raised through this event benefits the horses. Stop by during Ashland’s First Friday Art Walk, or afterwards to learn more about Equamore. New Sanctuary One Animal Paintings by Dana Feagin, Show Opens October 4, 2013

Save the date – My newest paintings of animals from Sanctuary One will be exhibited in the upstairs gallery at the Ashland Art Center from October 4th until the end of the month, with an opening reception from 5-8PM during Ashland’s First Friday Art Walk. Ten percent of all sales will be donated to Sanctuary One, a non-profit care farm in Jacksonville, OR. Stop in and say hello!

Last Week for Ashland Community Hospital Animal Art – Inspired Pet Portraits and Animal Paintings by Dana Feagin

It will feel a bit sad to take these Sanctuary One paintings, and the Doxie painting, down from the main reception and waiting area at Ashland Community Hospital next week. My husband works at the hospital and walks past them several times a day, so I hear that there are often small kids with their parents looking at the sweet animal faces and commenting on them.  The paintings will be split up and move back to my home studio, the Ashland Art Center, and to Starbucks on the south side of Ashland in early June.  Greeting cards and magnets with these images will still be available at the hospital upstairs in the outpatient waiting area.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“Flower Girl”, New Painting by Dana Feagin – Inspired Pet Portraits and Animal Paintings in Oil

After a bit of a mishap with the yellow background paint, this one is finally finished today – just waiting for the paint to dry so it can be imaged. The painting is based on a beautiful photo taken at a friend’s wedding by Justine Johnson Photograph. Thank you Cathy Connor and Justine Johnson, for allowing me to use this photo as a reference for my painting! Initially I wasn’t planning to include the flowers around Sophie’s neck, but an artist friend encouraged me. At times I though it would take longer to get the flowers looking right, than the overall painting of Sophie – but in the end, I am happy with the result. This one is titled “Flower Girl” and will be entered into the Irving Arts Assocation Fine Art Pet Portrait competition in September. Wish me luck!
